Exposure to Literacy through Performing Arts

StoryTime brings books to life to young students in grades 1-3 through entertaining storytelling events presented by professional performers, authors and storytellers. They come from a variety of community resource such as local theatres, storyteller associations and performance art theatres.  Storytellers entertain students with their tales and music, calling on students to participate through interactive role play which use costuming and props.

Through active engagement, storytelling strengthens reading comprehension by helping students develop of a sense of story and understand the use of essential story elements like point of view, plot, characters, setting, and theme. StoryTime aims to challenges imaginative thought while exposing children to a variety of creative and cultural forms of expression.  Students receive new books after each performance to build home libraries and encourage the reading for pleasure activity.
